Dr Lynn Hendricks, PhD Pub Health & Soc Sci, MA Psych, MSc Clin Epi, BSc Psych
She is the founding Director of Research Ambition (PTY), a research consultancy, since 2013, providing research support to emerging researchers and strategic consulting in the use of evidence for decision making. She is also a founding co-director of Heart in Action (NPC) since 2021, which provides support to youth and women with issues such as gender-based violence and mental health. She is a previous executive member of the Psychological Society of South Africa and currently serves as an executive for the Division for Climate and Environmental Psychology. In 2023, she received the Springer Nature Inclusive Health Research Award and the Cochrane Thomas C Chalmers Award for her work. For 2024, she has been awarded fellowships with Gilead Global Public Health as well as with Microsoft in their Society and AI Research group. She currently lectures in the Department of Global Health at Stellenbosch University, serves as a board member for the Centre for HIV/AIDS Management at Stellenbosch University, and holds a visiting professorship at KU Leuven, Belgium.
With over 17 years of experience in teaching in higher education, she has lectured both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at universities in South Africa and globally. She has mentored hundreds of postgraduate students and publishes extensively both in academic journals and in other formats. She believes in contributing to society through her work. She is a transdisciplinary pracademic with a dual PhD in Social Science and Public Health. She has a keen interest in innovating co-creative and co-productive primary and review-level research methods. Her recent work includes co-producing a local and international public art exhibition with IZIKO Museum, and a community-led documentary, More than a Pill, with young women perinatally infected with HIV in the Cape Flats.
